MIDTERM

In the Midterm, you will be tested on the material we have covered in class. The Midterm will consist of 10 images for you to describe and analyse in a short paragraph about each image. Say what you can about each one. Most of them will be taken from the painting and two-dimensional media part of the course, some will be from architecture, from the materials we have covered in class.

For painting and two-dimensional media, use the following criteria to structure your answer:

--medium: identify it

--iconography: identify it if possible and say what points are interesting about what kind of subject it is and about the way the subject is presented

--style: pick out the important stylistic characteristics and use those to help you decide what period the image belongs to

Use as much technical vocabulary as possible. Pay attention to spelling and grammar. You are not expected to identify individual images by name.

For architecture, use the following criteria:

--say what kind of building it is

--name the part of the building shown on the view, and identify its component parts, using correct technical vocabulary

--use those observations to help you decide what period it belongs to

Each answer will be graded out of 10 points, for 100 points total. You will spend 5 minutes on each image.
