MEDIEVAL ICONOGRAPHY: REQUIREMENTS


This is an active learning class. Attendance is mandatory. Weekly readings and visual analysis assignments are required.

Class presentations: 1 required. Students will pick a text passage, a work of secondary literature, or an image or set of images and present them to the class (no longer than 10-15 minutes each).  Choose topics and dates that fit what is being done in class.  Consult with Prof. Stones on your choices.  Sign-up sheet on her office door. 

Written work: a short written paper on a relevant topic of your choice, topic to be selected by MARCH 4; ONE-PAGE OUTLINE DUE MARCH 18 (including xeroxes of examples for discussion and a bibliography); completed paper due APRIL 1. Topics must be approved.  Papers will be returned APRIL 15.

Midterm and final will be short written assignments based on slides or text passages of material covered in class. Practice will be given throughout the term.

Grade is based on performance in all 4 assignments (25%each).  A higher level of performance is expected of graduate students.
